Moving The Old Granary

granarymovingA granary is a storehouse for threshed grain or animal feed.

When we moved to the farm, we fell in love with the old granary not far from the barn. It is a small two-story post and beam building. The grain was stored loose on the top floor and dropped down a chute to the bottom to be bagged.

The old granary was in bad repair, resting on stones that had sunk into the ground. To preserve the old granary, we poured a new concrete foundation about 100 feet from the original site, then jacked up the building and moved it onto the new foundation.
